About the Job
We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our onsite team at VMO. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting data pipelines, ETL workflows, and ensuring the stability and reliability of cloud-based data platforms across environments such as GCP, Airflow, BigQuery, and Looker/Power BI.You will investigate data issues, monitor DAGs, analyze root causes, and work closely with DevOps, BI, and analytics teams to troubleshoot reporting anomalies and ensure end-to-end data quality. This role involves incident response, documentation, continuous improvement of pipelines, and participation in live operations.If you're passionate about data operations, cloud platforms, and large-scale data systems, and want to be part of a dynamic, high-impact engineering team — we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues in data pipelines using tools such as Airflow, Fivetran, ADF, and DAGs on GCP.
- Support data ingestion, transformation, and distribution across staging, data warehouse, and reporting layers.
- Monitor Airflow DAGs, system health, and respond to alerts via tools like Datadog, Opsgenie, and GCP Metrics.
- Analyze the impact and determine root cause of data issues.
- Fix and rerun failed tasks, correct invalid input, or rebuild datasets for external users.
- Collaborate with analytics and BI teams to troubleshoot report/dashboard anomalies (using Power BI, Looker).
- Participate in GOLIVE processes and validate data-related change requests.
- Document solutions, update runbooks, and create SOPs for known issues.
- Partner with DevOps and L3 teams to optimize system performance and platform stability.
- Ensure SLA compliance for P1/P2 incident tickets and contribute to root cause analysis and internal knowledge base.
- Continuously improve and optimize data pipelines, data models, and dashboard reliability.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in a Data Engineering or Data Operations role.
- Proficient in SQL (BigQuery SQL, T-SQL) and Python for data processing and scripting.
- Hands-on experience managing DAGs in Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and IAM.
- Ability to debug and resolve data issues across the ingestion, processing, and reporting layers.
- Experience handling P1/P2-level incidents and using monitoring/alerting tools (e.g. Datadog, Opsgenie).
- Strong understanding of ETL best practices, error handling, and data validation logic.
- Good English communication skills (especially for writing incident tickets and documentation).
Preferred Requirement
- Experience with SAP HANA or similar enterprise database systems.
- Understanding of ITIL standards, particularly in incident, change, and issue management.
- Familiarity with BI tools and their data layers such as Power BI and Looker.
- Experience working in environments with SLAs, escalation procedures, and structured support processes.
- Ability to contribute to documentation efforts, including runbooks, SOPs, and post-incident reviews.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including DevOps, Analytics, and L3 support.
- Familiarity with data quality frameworks and observability practices.
